Munchkins, Music & Me Class at The Trendy Bunny studio
Munchkins, Music & Me is a class for kids ages 6mo-4yrs old focused on exposing the little ones to music. There are many benefits of exposing kids to music at a young age including:
Cognitive Development
- Enhances memory and attention span.
- Promotes early language development through exposure to rhythm and melody.
- Improves spatial-temporal skills which is crucial for problem-solving.
Emotional Development
- Encourages self-expression and creativity.
- Facilitates emotional regulation and stress relief.
- Fosters bonding and attachment between infants/toddlers and caregivers through shared musical experiences.
Social Development
- Stimulates social interaction with caregivers.
- Teaches turn-taking and cooperation.
- Enhances empathy and understanding of others' emotions through exposure to lyrics and musical styles.
Physical Development
- Supports gross motor skill development through movement to music.
- Refines fine motor skills through activities like clapping, tapping, and playing simple instruments.
- Encourages overall coordination and balance.
For class you will come in and sit on the carpet in a circle. We start with a welcome song where we learn everyone’s names. This song is the same every week to encourage the children and caregivers to have an established routine when we start music class. The next part of class is our singing time. We will sing familiar songs and add some new songs as people get comfortable. Children are drawn to human voices and are even found to focus more on the familiar voices of their caregivers over other sounds and voices. Singing, talking and making eye contact with your child encourages conversational skills, turn taking in conversation, and tone and rhythm of voices. We use props such as egg shakes, tambourines, and rhythm sticks to encourage movement and rhythm as we sing songs. Depending on the developmental stage of each child some may not be able to crawl or walk yet, but every song and activity can be modified to fit every child and grownup.
Towards the end of class there is an opportunity for instrument exploration. The children are given a more unstructured time to explore the child sized instruments to give them new experiences. It's always interesting to see what instruments different kids are drawn to. This class really is a great time for everyone and a great way to also meet other families and kiddos.
Our classes run in 8 week sessions. Registration is required at the beginning of the session. If you'd like to try out class before registering for an entire session there is an opportunity to purchase a one time drop in pass to try one class.
